In the land of olive oil

The quintessential provencal fruit, there are many varieties of olives, from the Picholine to the Grossane, from the Cailletier to the Lucques. It can be enjoyed in a thousand ways: tapenade, olive paste, accompanying fish… and above all olive oil.

Olive oil is in fact an important production for the region. Five olive oils have obtained the "Appellation d’origine contrôlée" (AOC) label: Nyons, Haute-Provence, Vallée des Baux, Nice and Pays d’Aix. With 200,000 trees, the Nyons orchard in Provencal Drome, alone represents 6% of the national orchard.

In the Vaucluse, around Bélézy, there are a dozen working olive mills. The Moulin de la Colombe mill, in Malemort du Comtat and the Moulin du Comtat mill in Caromb are only a few kilometres from the campsite.

Olive enthusiasts can also discover the history of olives in Provence at the Musée de l'Olivier (Olive museum) and the Institut du Monde de l'Olivier (Olive World Institute) in Nyons.
